Hands On IH

Stefanie Sisk and Crystal deGolyer

Carson 1

Safety and Health always go hand in hand, and often industrial hygiene is added to the safety person’s extensive list of responsibilities. Knowing how and what to sample for and simply where to start can be pretty confusing.

This 8-hour Hands-on IH Workshop is intended to help those that are new to IH, and those that would just like a refresher.  We will cover how to identify what needs to be sampled in the areas of a mine, how to assemble sample trains, calibrate sample pumps and how to calibrate noise dosimeters.

Attendees are welcome to bring their sample pumps and noise dosimeters if they would like the instructors to help them understand how to operate their own equipment, or they can use the equipment supplied by the instructors.

During the workshop we will cover: Identifying what areas need sampled How to do risk assessments to determine what needs to be sampled first Putting the sample plan together How to do particulate sampling, including putting together sample trains & how to calibrate pumps How to do noise sampling and how to calibrate noise dosimeters How to interpret results Understanding MSHA's New Silica Rule and how to do the sampling that it requires.

Crystal 1

Each year a significant number of workers are injured or killed from a fall on the jobsite. Regardless of one’s work frequency and duration, all workers performing duties at height need to understand the proper application and use of fall protection. This half-day course will provide an overview of fall protection principles and the essential equipment components used in a basic personal fall restraint or arrest system. The course includes challenge questions, workbook exercises, and other interactive instructional techniques to enhance student learning. This training program is suited for those who work at height in a specific situation with an established approved anchor point using basic connectors and body supports. The course material will provide students with an engaging and enjoyable learning environment.
